Description

Hello!

We are Bristol University Swing Society (BUSS)! Swing is a group of dances that originated in the 1920s and 30s within African American communities in Harlem, New York City. We tend to focus on Lindy Hop, a partnered social dance. A six or eight count footwork basic is used as the general idea, but we love how improvisational and relaxed this dance is! Swing is generally danced to jazz music, often to live jazz bands. We run weekly swing dancing sessions including a beginners and intermediate class, so there's something for everyone no dancing background necessary!

We will also be running regular socials, including dance events, cafe trips, and more -  so sign up for a good time all year round!

Hope to dance with you soon!

Class information:

Our classes are £2.50, or FREE if you are a member.

Class schedule:

Mondays 19:00-21:00 Beginners and intermediate class with social dancing. Location: Carpenter Room Richmond Building

Wednesdays 19:00-21:00 Alternative dance styles! Location: Room 3.20 Richmond Building

Our classes are super relaxed and friendly, and you'll get to know everyone over the year! You'll have the opportunity to learn both follow and lead roles as you pick up lots of fun moves throughout the terms. Wear whatever is comfortable for you to move in, whether that's sportswear and trainers or vintage style swing clothing!  There is no need to bring a partner with you as everyone will rotate and dance with everyone else (unless you'd prefer not to!), but feel free to bring friends along!
