Tried Lindy Hop? Tried Solo Jazz? Now try Balboa, a close-partnered style allowing you to dance in small spaces and crowded dance floors where it originated from in Southern California in the 1920’s. Able to be danced to fast and slow Swing music you can take it to the social dance floor for a rest or to dance the quickest of tunes. Our brilliant Inclusions Officer Gaurav will be teaching with Flora a class suitable for complete beginners over our two hour slot with a break in between.
Swing dancing is a type of partnered dance that originated in African American communities during the 1920s and 30s and encompasses a group of different dances including Lindy hop, Charleston and Balboa. A six or eight count footwork basic is used as the general idea, but we love how improvisational and relaxed this dance is!
Our classes include a beginner lesson and an intermediate lesson, and some social dancing time. Everyone is welcome, no prior dancing experience is required to come along to the beginner lesson. You can wear whatever is comfortable for you, whether that's sportswear and trainers or vintage style swing clothing. You don't need to bring a partner with you as we will be rotating throughout. It's a great way to meet new people; our class is super relaxed and friendly!
