CLC Film Night

Join us on 18 October for a screening of Donkey Skin (1970), Jacques Demy's colourful and surreal take on the classic French fairytale.

Directed by Jacques Demy, Donkey Skin is a surrealist French fantasy musical based on Charles Perrault's classic fairytale. With enchanted dresses, magical donkeys and a princess disguised in a donkey skin and a princess disguised in a donkey skin, the film brings traditional fairy tale elements into a wonderfully strange and colourful world.

Jacques Demy was a French Filmmaker associated with the French New Wave, known for his colorful, highly stylised films that blend musicals, fairytales and romance. His work often plays with the line between fantasy and reality, drawing inspiration from everything from classic Hollywood musicals to French folklore.

Donkey Skin was his first venture into the world of fairytales and historical fantasy, making it a perfect introduction to Demy's wonderfully surreal style.
