Welcome to DramSoc, the University of Bristol's longest-running, largest and most prestigious performing arts society! Committed to student theatre, we aim to nurture talent, produce high-quality productions and cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Buying a membership ensures that you can:
- Act, direct, produce, costume design, set design or be on the creative marketing team for any of our shows!
- Participate in our Directing Scheme or Writing Scheme!
- Attend workshops with industry professionals!
- Attend our super fun socials and formals!
Here's an overview of the show slots we have annually, all of which you can be a part of as a member:
- TRASh (That Really Arsty Showcase) in the Winston Theatre
- The intimate show slot at the Pegg in the Student's Union
- The grandeur of the Winston Theatre in the Student's Union
- The slot at the atmospheric underground tunnels of the Loco Klub
- An original show that we fund to go up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival each year
- The Writing Scheme and Directing Scheme
- The two 'FRESHCASE' shows for freshers and fresh faces at secret locations revealed closer to the time...
Other than shows, what else do we do?
- Collaboration with a variety of other societies - including MTB, Spotlights, ACS, East Meets West, BULABDS and more!
- Proposals - every show slot is voted in by members at proposals. Everyone is welcome to come along and propose or share their thoughts on the proposed plays
- Family scheme - specific socials dedicated to getting to know your DramLights 'family'
- Workshops - led by industry professionals. Previous examples include Frantic Assembly and Lil Wenker
- Dramscratch - monthly scratch nights welcoming all kinds of performance, from practicing a monologue to trialling a stand up sketch
- Coffee socials - a time for a mid-week catch up and chit chat!
- Theatre trips - discounted tickets to watch external shows. Previous visit include Bristol Old Vic and The Wardobe Theatre
- Pub quizzes - a go-to show fundraiser
- Themed club nights - from a Halloween special to white lies!
- Winter formal dinner - a chance to get dressed up and get in the festive spirit
- Trip abroad - an annual DramLights trip during Easter holidays
- POSHED - the Performing Arts Societies end of year ball
Anyone and everyone is welcome to audition for any of our shows or propose to put on a show in one of those slots, all funding provided by us!
Membership is only £10! And trust us.... it's so worth it!
... as well as participating in anything we do, being a member also gives you discounted tickets to all of our shows! So for those who are less interested in participating and just love watching high-standard theatre, buying a membership will save you so much money!
If you need assistance in covering the cost of your membership, please contact the SU to access the Activity Hardship Fund https://www.bristolsu.org.uk/support-centre/support-for-committees/group-finance/activity-hardship-fund . All applications will be treated with confidentiality.

Membership Fee Inclusions
Prior to signing up to a Club or Society speak to the Committee to find out what your membership includes and if there are any further expenses throughout the year.
Service Standards
All Club or Society members can expect to receive:
- The opportunity to attend regular meetings, events, activities, trips and socials as arranged.
- The opportunity to stand for a committee position or vote in their elections (Bristol students only).
- For Sports Club – to attend regular training sessions and have the opportunity to be selected for the teams.
Code of Conduct
When joining a club or society you are agreeing to abide by the constitution, general rules, regulations and policies of University of Bristol Students’ Union and also the Club or Society Code of Conduct which sets out the level of behaviour & discipline expected of all Club & Society members.
Refund Policy
Any customer who pays for a membership subscription to a Bristol SU Society, Sports Club, Student Media and initiatives has a 14 day cooling off period from the time and date of purchase during which they have the right to cancel the subscription and receive a full refund. If you do decide to cancel within the 14 days, Bristol SU will refund your payment within a further 30 days of the cancellation. To request a refund please email: bristolsu@bristol.ac.uk
Data sharing (Sports Club members only)
Please be aware that Bristol SU may share data relating to the members of its sports clubs with the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health (a department of the University). This information may be used for the purposes of communicating direct with these members and/or to cross-reference against SEH's Sports Pass membership records.
As part of Bristol SU's membership of British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) Bristol SU may have to share data on to its sports clubs members so BUCS can, from time to time, communicate with these members.
Data sharing (Societies members only)
If you're joining one of the societies listed below please be aware that your name and email address will be shared with Bristol Hub for the purpose of keeping you up to date with their activities through their email “The Week”:
