Gamesoc is the place to be at UoB for Boardgames, Roleplaying games, Social deduction games, Trading card games, Wargames, Megagames (and sometimes LARPing!). If it’s not electronic, we play it. We own huge quantities of boardgames, trading cards, roleplaying sourcebooks and wargame terrains, all available for you to try out, borrow, and enjoy!
We get together every Saturday, 12pm - 6pm, spread across four CALD rooms (4.70, 4.72, 4.74, & 4.76) on the 4th floor of the Richmond Building, and will also be holding special themed events and socials most weeks. Please note that this calendar is provisional; for the latest updates see our Discord and Instagram.
Sunday 1st of February (10am - 4pm): Back of the Cupboard Games
When you're at the regular meet you might get into the habit of playing the same games -- ones that you are very familiar with or ones that you and your friends all know. In this session we will be bringing games that aren't played a lot during regular meets. You are also welcome to bring any new games that you have wanted to bring to gamesoc but have never had the opportunity to play. Hopefully in this session you will be able to learn new games, and also have people learn the games you love so you can play them more at our regluar meets. Join us in room 1.69 in the Queens Building this Sunday with your unique games!
Monday 2nd of February (6pm - 11pm): Chance & Counters Meet
GameSoc will be running a meet up o in Chance and Counters, a boardgame café on Gloucester Road. This event will run 6pm-11pm, and there will be a deal on offer to get games, burger and fries and a soft/hot drink for £15, or just games for £5. Please come along and see us there!
Wednesday 11th of February (12pm - 9pm): Den of Wolves Megagame!
A megagame is a big strategy game (like Risk) but rather than playing by yourself, you will be working in a team. This is a megagame set in the 27th Century. Despite political differences and internal problems, most of humanity is at peace. The various factions, spread across multiple star systems, are governed by the Interstellar Council. This all changed eighteen days ago when the military of Wolf-1061, an insular and secretive planet-state, launched a massive, catastrophic attack against the other inhabited planets. Through a mixture of cyber-attacks, espionage and sabotage, they managed to disable the vast majority of the Interstellar Council's military, and went on to devastate their targets on the various planets. You must maintain governmental and social order, while providing critical supplies to survivours and mounting an effective defense against the pursuing Wolf forces. We hope to see you in the Hawthorns Basement. Tickets to the event are £4 -- which you can find on the Events page of our website. This covers the cost of the game itself and the pizzas which we will be catering because of how long the event runs for. Don't worry we won't be starting at exactly 12pm, so if you have a class that runs until 12 you won't miss anything. If you have any classes that run until 1pm that you can't miss but you really want to come to the Megagame, let us know and we will find a way to accomodate this.
Saturday 28th of February & Sunday 1st of March: South West Amalgamation of Games (SWAG)
Boardgames Societies from all over the South West & Wales (Cardiff, Swansea, Bristol, Bath, Exeter...) will be joining together for the second annual gathering of games! These will include Boardgames, Megagames, Wargaming, TTRPG oneshots, a Magic: The Gathering tournament and much much more. Whilst it was held in Cardiff last year, this year it will be held in Bath. More details (including where to get tickets) are still to come!
