Weekly Quiz Practice

We run weekly sessions for both beginners and more experienced quizzers. The atmosphere is laid back and non-competitive so feel free to come along and say hi! We currently run 2 sessions per week:

1. Tuesdays 8pm-10pm, Stephenson Room, Richmond Building - Our Tuesday evening sessions are 2 hour sessions made up of 1 hour of buzzer quizzing and 1 hour of social quzzing!

2. Saturdays 11am-1pm, 5.20, Senate House - Our Saturday sessions are also 2 hour sessions, but are 2 hours of buzzer quizzing!

  • Buzzer quizzing involves teams working together to answer questions while also having to use their buzzers to be the first to answer individual effort questions (just like University Challenge).
  • Social quizzing involves pub quiz-style group activities where you can team up with friends to answer more low brow questions. Last year we played rounds based on Only Connect, Richard Osman's House of Games, Countdown, Pointless, and more, so if you enjoy those shows then this activity is for you!

We will also be hosting viewings of Bristol's University Challenge episodes.

Socials and other events

Our regular weekly Pub Quiz takes place in the White Bear on St Michael's Hill every Sunday in termtime from 7-9pm. Come along if you enjoy cheap pints and want the chance to win a cash prize!

We also plan on running various other socials throughout the year, so follow our socials to stay posted!

University Challenge and Quizbowl

University Challenge trials will be starting in October 2025, so stay tuned!

We also send teams to inter-university Quizbowl competitions at novice and higher levels. These tournaments are similar in style to University Challenge (though there are a range of difficulty levels) and typically involve a trip to another university. If you want to be added to our Quizbowl chat, you can find it in our WhatsApp community. The cost of first-time entries will be subsidised!

Equalities Statement

The University of Bristol Quiz Society is committed to creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere for members with any and all attributes, characteristics, and experiences. We celebrate the diversity amongst our membership but acknowledge the challenges that different communities face in making the most of extracurricular activities at the university. Therefore, we encourage and respond to feedback from our members, with an always-open line of communication. The committee regularly meet, with EDI as a standing agenda item, and work to mitigate any potential concerns. We do not simply want our members to feel safe and welcome; we want them to be safe and welcome.
