If you couldn’t make it down for this year’s Annual Members Meeting (AMM) then don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

Students got involved to have their say and vote on SU policy – and multiple motions were passed.

But what were they, and what are the outcomes that will affect your student experience?

Why do AMM results affect me?

Any motions that pass at AMM become active policy for three years. This means that it becomes a focus for your SU Officers, and the staff team that work here at the SU, which can impact your experience as a student.

When those three years are up, motions can be proposed for renewal at AMM to continue as policy. Alongside the introduction of brand-new motions, this renewal process is exactly what happened at this year’s meeting.

Who decides what becomes policy?

For an existing motion to come to AMM for a chance of renewal, or a new motion to be in with the chances of it becoming policy, a student must put the motion forward and a second student must ‘second it’. Students attending the meeting can then vote for or against the motion – deciding whether it becomes or continues as policy.

This is the opportunity for you to have your say.

Motion Renewal

At this year’s AMM there were three motions up for renewal. These were:

1. Championing a Culture of Consent at Bristol SU – ✅ PASSED with 97% support✅
2. Supporting Sex Workers – ✅ PASSED with 78% support ✅
3. Harm Reduction Approach to Drugs and Alcohol – ✅ PASSED with 92% support ✅
