Bristol SU Public Forum

Wednesday 19-10-2022 - 09:47

Bristol SU Public Forums have been introduced this year by Adam Michael, Bristol SU Union Affairs Officer, to provide a direct line for students to contact Full Time Officers, gather student feedback and address ongoing issues throughout the year. It’s an opportunity to share thoughts and concerns to the Officer team, and engage with democratic structures more directly than ever before. Each forum will include an open floor opportunity for students to address things directly.

The first event took place on Tuesday 18 October in the Bristol SU Loft and covered a range of different topics.

It started off with introductions from each member of the Full Time Officer team.

We then discussed Welcome Week and heard feedback from students about the different events which were held, including the Welcome Fair. There was also some discussion about the information that international students receive over the welcome period.

Discussion then moved onto the first few weeks of term and how students have been finding their time so far, and are aware of access to academic support.

After a short break, we came back to a short discussion around the TB1 Elections and some questions relating to elections turnout (12% in case you missed our elections results article), and how the SU are planning to build engagement from students in democracy.

Cost of Living was a hot topic of conversation and there were particular concerns raised about access to transport and transport costs, as well as the cost of food on campus. This is something your officer team are actively working on, and you can find the most up to date details here.

Finally, the event moved onto an Open Floor, which meant that students in attendance could raise any questions they might have for the officer team which hadn't already been covered.

If you missed the event, the minutes will be available online shortly.

Our next Democratic event is our Student Council which will take place on Thursday 10 November at 4pm in the Biomedical Building E29. Student Council is open to all students to attend, but only voting members will be able to vote.
