 Get Involved This Term!

Friday 20-01-2023 - 16:43

As the final exam and deadline hurdles are crossed, there is now plenty to be excited about during the first term of 2023!

We hope you will enjoy getting involved with some of the brilliant events coming up over the next month. From giving Combat Karate a try to our annual Refreshers Fair, there is something for everyone.

Give it a Go! (GIAG) Sessions

If you’ve found yourself too busy to take part in an activity or haven't been able to find a hobby that’s right for you in term one, then GIAG is the perfect option!

We are providing GIAG Sessions so that you can sign up for a variety of different tasters held by Bristol SU student groups. Whether that be trying out Salsa, getting involved with a Magic Society session, or even both, finding something fun to pass the time couldn't be easier.

To fully embrace these taster sessions, a Give it a Go! Takeover Day will be taking place tomorrow, January 21, in the Richmond Building. Book a Give it a Go! Session that takes your fancy!

Refreshers Fair

What better way to celebrate the new term than with our annual commercial refreshers fair? Join us on Wednesday, 25 January, in the Richmond Building (12:00-17:00), to explore this fantastic event.

You will find food stalls, including big names like Frankie and Benny’s and Domino’s Pizza, vintage clothes, and various brands that would love to help you enjoy Bristol city life even more!

Local businesses such as Fancy Plants, Steam Bar and Wake The Tiger will also be set up at the fair. To see who else will be joining them on the day, look at our Refreshers Page

Come along to get freebies, discounts and even participate in interactive games.

Volunteering Fair

An end to January doesn’t mean an end to events and activities!

Dive into the month of February with our Volunteering Fair, taking place on Wednesday 8 February 16:30 until 18:30 in the Anson Rooms

This is a great chance to find out how you can get involved in a range of volunteer opportunities all around Bristol. Whether that be helping struggling families, supporting refugees or empowering older people, there are multiple ways in which you can help strengthen communities and combat crises.

Both staff and students are welcome to attend, just bring your U Card with you to see what opportunities are waiting for you.

We will be hosting a Volunteering Week from Monday 13 February until Sunday 19 February, with each day offering a unique volunteering event or workshop for you to get stuck into.

On 14 February you could be working alongside Pachamama, a non-profit organisation dedicated to fighting period poverty. By 16 February you could be assisting Avon Needs Trees with tree planting and learning the techniques for planting native tree saplings.

Pick a day that is good for you and find out what is in store!

Sustainability Month

Plant potting supplies

As part of the University’s ‘Be the Change’ mission, February will be a month of Action! In line with this, we will be offering opportunities to volunteer, buy local, and connect with others to have a collective and sustainable impact.

Sustainability month will be kicking off on the 2 February with a collaboration between The Sustainability Network and Epigram! Together, they will be hosting a plant-potting workshop

You could spend the rest of the month at a Trashion show, various volunteer days, or even a sustainable seller fair. These will all be in the run up to the Climate Day of Action, which will take place on 24 February.

If positively contributing to one of the city’s green spaces, among other sustainable projects, sounds like something you would be interested in, then make sure to browse our events
