About Us

We welcome you to the UoB Ice Skating Society! 

Newly formed in January 2025, skaters with all skating levels have joined the Ice Soc and created a community where Bristol students share their experiences while having fun on ice! Meet us weekly at Planet Ice Bristol on Wednesdays and improve your skating skills with other UoB students, which include people who have never skated before, and people with years of active training who still skate multiple days a week. 

Both figure skating and ice hockey are represented in our committee which enable us to provide skating guidance for both sports, where we are also able to recommend relevant skating opportunities for members to get started in the sport, or to join pre-existing skating groups. Additionally, we may attend figure skating shows or hockey matches as a group to enjoy watching the sport being played by people with passion, along with other social events that cater for different members' desires.

While ice skating is the main activity of the society, we recognise that there are some who are interested in skating but do not wish to skate weekly, and some who whish to come more but are faced with other difficulties. Generally speaking, there is no expectation for everyone to turn up every session. For those who wish to build their skills but are unable to skate regularly, our advice is to make sure you maintain consistency and you will improve, even with low frequency. Off ice sessions are also a possibility that we could offer depending on demand, which would potentially add skating sessions on alternative days and decrease the travel distance from central Bristol. 

There is excitement and a strong ambition in the society to introduce ice skating to a broader range of people, and provide anyone who wants to skate an environment where Bristol students have active skating prescence. We look forward to bringing ice skating closer to the UoB student life, and make progress in developing Bristol students' skating skills!
