What should I do once I've arrived in Bristol?

Bristol is a busy city with a lot going on! To get around, use apps such as Google Maps to navigate the city 🏙️

We recommend that you get to know your local area - this includes finding a supermarket or grocery store, an emergency hospital, and other essential services.

Here are some useful places close to campus:

  • Sainsburys (supermarket) - A reliable option for everyday groceries, located within walking distance of the University.
  • Lidl (supermarket) - Great for budget-friendly shopping, offering a wide range of products at lower prices.
  • Local Interntaional supermarket options - On Queens Road, there are multiple small asian and international supermarkets, including; Seoul's Mart and Langyu.
  • Wai Yee Hong Chinese supermarket – Found in Eastville, this large Asian supermarket offers a wide range of Chinese and other East Asian groceries. It’s accessible by public transport and also has an online store.

For emergencies, the nearest hospital is:

  • Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) – Located on Marlborough Street, just a short walk from campus. The Emergency Department is open 24/7 and handles serious injuries and life-threatening conditions. For non-urgent medical issues, you can call NHS 111 or visit a local pharmacy/GP.

Once you've settled in, make sure to:

  • Register with a GP (doctor) if you’re staying in Bristol long-term.
  • Explore your neighbourhood, find local cafés, green spaces, and shops. We love Brandon Hill behind Park Street, or the Clifton Downs!
  • Attend Bristol SU Welcome Events to meet other students and get familiar with campus life.
