Description

This page is primarily for purchasing club membership, session credits and archery related accessories. If you're trying to find information about the club, check out our website at www.uobarchery.com or, if you can't find the information you're looking for, try our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/uobarchery

Who Can Join

  • Everyone; we're proud to be an inclusive club and welcome anyone who wishes to join us.
  • We cater for both experienced archers and those who haven't picked up a bow before; in fact, all our competitions have categories specifically for those who have taken up shooting this year, so you can go from not having shot, to winning national medals within months!
  • For those without their own, equipment is provided as part of your club membership (novices are given priority over club bows and arrows).
  • We do require complete beginners to take part in a beginners' course which we provide twice a year and is available for purchase. This allows you to learn the basics of target archery, whilst being deemed safe to shoot.

If you want to join as an experienced archer, please get in touch via our Facebook page or email us at uob.archery@gmail.com. We would need to schedule a one-session assessment to ensure you can shoot safely (nothing to do with how well you shoot!). You do not need to have a membership for this assessment session.

If you have any questions about joining the club, get in touch with us via Facebook or email.

When and Where

We shoot up at Coombe Dingle Sports Centre, Courts 3 and 4 on these dates and times:

Wednesday 19:00 - 22:00
Friday 19:00 - 22:00 (Development archers only)
Sunday 9:00 - 12:00

Competitions

We shoot in a regional league called SWWU (South Wales and West Universities) and take part in national competitions as part of BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport), so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the competitive side of the sport.

We also host our own fun-shoots within the club, as well as encourage competition between ourselves. However, we also welcome those who just want to shoot for fun!

Fees & Membership

We have several types of membership available, so there's something to suit everyone. If you have not done archery before, you must complete a beginners' course to shoot with us. We are planning for there to be two beginners' courses in 2023/24, in October and February. A beginners' course costs £35. Once you have completed a course you will be able to buy Novice membership (£15). Novice membership includes the same benefits as Development (listed below) so that you can choose how competitive you want to be in your first year of shooting.

Club members are also reminded that they are required to purchase session credits for each session they intend on attending. The link to these can be found above.

Follow our social media to be the first to hear about beginners' courses - they're expected to sell out quickly!

Beginners

February Beginners' Course: 2022/23

If you have not done archery with a registered archery club before, you must complete a beginners' course to shoot with us. This membership covers all costs required to complete the course.

What is it? The course includes three beginners' only sessions and a minimum of two 'integration sessions'. The beginners' only sessions will give you the basics of range safety and archery technique, and the aim of the integration sessions is to transition from this into shooting at a normal club practise session. After completing the course, you will be qualified to shoot at any archery club in the UK.

When is it? The course will include beginners' only sessions on Sunday 29th January, Sunday 12th February and Sunday 19th February from 9AM to 12PM. All three of these sessions are mandatory. You will also complete a minimum of 2 integration sessions from a selection of dates. These are (provisionally) Friday 3rd March, Friday 10th March from 7PM to 10PM and Sunday 12th March 9AM to 12PM.

Where is it? We shoot at Coombe Dingle Sports Complex. The easiest way to get there is with the number 3 bus, alternatives are the number 4 or the number 1 bus.

How do I get involved with the club afterwards? After completing the beginners' course, you can get the Novice membership for £15 for the entire academic year and keep shooting with the club 🙂 You can find out more about what's included in the membership and about session fees on our website: http://www.uobarchery.com/membership.html

You can buy the beginners' course by clicking the join this group button at the top of our SU page (you must be logged in to do so). Please note, the SEH access pass should be automatically added to your basket upon purchasing your beginners' course, it is mandatory and if not there is a link to it further down this page.

There is also an option to buy a combined beginners' course. This allows you to buy your novice membership at the same time as the beginners' course for a discount!

If you have any questions, or have trouble booking onto the course, don't hesitate to get in touch!

Returning/New Experiened Members

New experienced members (people who have completed a beginner's course at another club) will be required to complete a safety assessment prior to purchasing their memberships. We are running a safety assessment and get to know the club session for new experienced members on Friday 30th September, please book your ticket for this using the link in the events section, or if you are joining at a different time of year then please contact the committee via Facebook (www.facebook.com/uobarchery) or email (uob.archery@gmail.com) to arrange a time and date.

For returning members or new members that have completed a course at another club, we have two options: Social and Development.

If you're not sure which membership suits you best, please contact the committee via Facebook (www.facebook.com/uobarchery) or email (uob.archery@gmail.com) and we'll be happy to talk you through it!
